Sos Romania

SOS Medical was established in Bucharest, Romania, in 2000, during a period of profound transition in the country, just over a decade after the fall of the Communist regime. At the time, access to high-quality private emergency ambulance services was extremely limited, creating a clear and urgent gap in the healthcare market.

Following extensive market research and the development of a solid business plan, SOS Medical was founded with the vision of introducing modern, professional emergency medical services to Romania. State-of-the-art ambulances were acquired from France and transported to Romania, marking the beginning of a new standard in private emergency care.

The company’s launch attracted an exceptional group of young medical professionals who shared the vision and enthusiasm for building something entirely new in the Romanian healthcare sector. Recruitment interviews, held in a Bucharest hotel lobby, drew a remarkable turnout of talented doctors, nurses, and paramedics eager to become part of the initiative.

SOS Medical pioneered a private medical subscription model, offering individuals and companies access to reliable emergency medical services and professional healthcare support. The concept quickly gained traction and established the company as an important early player in Romania’s emerging private healthcare market.

In 2005, following several years of successful growth and operational development, the company was sold through a management buyout.
